Rheumatic heart failure is the condition in which there is a permanent damage to the heart valves that happens due to the rheumatic fever. The heart value gets damaged by the impact of disease that basically starts from strep throat caused due to streptococcus A bacteria and reaches to the stage where it causes heart failure.
The rheumatic heart failure is due to fever that affects the tissues in the body, especially those that are associated to the heart joints, skin and brain. It usually occurs in children of age 5 to 15 year old. The disease is not life threatening, but can be sever sometimes. To reduce the impact of rheumatic fever, the long term antibiotic therapy is prescribed. However when the case is serious this therapy do not seem to be effective. For treating the Rheumatic heart failure steroid treatment is the usual manner which works well. The last option is the surgery that might be required to change or repair the damaged valves. Along with treatment, patients are also recommended to follow some prevention techniques along with regular check up reduce the possibility of heart failure.
