Heart ablation is a technique used to treat anomalous heart rhythms, or heart arrhythmias. The kind of heart arrhythmia and the existence of other heart ailment decide whether heart ablation can be carried out surgically or non-surgically. Apart from re-establishing a regular heart rhythm in people with certain heart arrhythmias, heart ablation treatment can help manage the heart rate in people with fast heart arrhythmias, and lessen the threat of blood clots and strokes. There are two types of heart ablation treatments, one is surgical and another is non – surgical. Learn more about what is heart ablation here.
What is hear ablation
Types of heart ablation
Heart ablation is a technique used to treat anomalous heart rhythms. There are two methods of carrying out a heart ablation, these two heart ablation methods are :
Non surgical heart ablation
Non-surgical heart ablation is used for various sorts of heart arrhythmias, Non surgical heart ablation is done in a special lab called as electrophysiology laboratory. During Non surgical heart ablate method a catheter is introduced into a precise region of the heart. A special machine focuses energy through the catheter to small regions of the heart muscle that are responsible for the abnormal heart rhythm. This energy cut off the pathway of the irregular rhythm. Non surgical heart ablation can also be used to separate the electrical pathway between the atria and the ventricles of the heart.
Surgical heart ablation
In surgical heart ablation, patient is administered general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is used, depending on the case to case basis. During minimally invasive heart ablation surgery procedure, the doctor views the external surface of the heart through an endoscope. Specialized apparatus are used to find out the areas requiring ablation and to make the lines of conduction block. Unlike the traditional heart surgery, in a surgical heart ablation, there is no big chest wall opening, and the heart is not stopped from functioning. The Maze process for heart ablation needs a cut along the breast bone. The slit may be of conventional length, or in a few cases, minimally invasive. The heart is stopped from functioning in this procedure. A heart-lung machine supplies the oxygenated blood and circulates it all over the body during surgery. The advanced Maze process engross using one of four different energy supply viz. radiofrequency, microwave, laser, or cryothermy to create the lines of conduction block. This heart ablation method is used mainly in patients who have atrial fibrillation and other signs for surgery.
There are many surgical heart ablation procedures like the maize process, minimally invasive surgical heart ablation, etc.
Cardiac ablation is done by destroying tissue that obstructs the electrical signal that travels throughout your heart to make it beat. By clearing the signal pathway of the anomalous tissue through the heart ablation, your heartbeat can beat normally again. Heart ablation is occasionally done through open-heart surgery, but generally it is done by using catheters, making the heart ablation method less invasive and decreasing healing times.
Heart ablation is a low-risk method that cures the symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia. In various cases, patients who have gone through a heart ablation procedure either get a long-term decline in the number of symptomatic episodes and intensity of symptoms, or a lasting return to regular heart rhythm. Usually, they can go back to their regular life and activities after a heart ablation procedure. However, as with any process, there are threats and risks of heart ablation that potentially include hemorrhage or bruising, inflammation, blood clots, a sluggish heart beat, or damage of the heart muscles and blood vessels. This also means that remedies for controlling the heart arrhythmia can be lessened or stopped after a successful cardiac ablation.
